About the BRAC 2005 Process
BRAC Facts        BRAC Timeline PDF       BRAC History       BRAC on the web

The Congressionally-mandated BRAC process was established as an objective means for the Department of Defense to determine which military bases should be scaled down or closed for efficiency purposes.

Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld testified before Congress that between 20 and 25 percent of military bases could be closed.

Over the course of the next year, each of the military services will evaluate their own bases, and every base in the country will be ranked according to the value it provides to the U.S. military. During this time, the Friends of VAFB will make the case that VAFB provides a valuable service with locally based intellectual capital, and that these resources will not relocate and therefore the services cannot be provided with the same level of mission success anywhere else.

Our U.S. Senators, Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer, have pledged to help in this fight.  Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has made protecting California 's military bases a top priority.
